Turbulent times, a portent of doom?

Hello again!

How you all doing?

Well its been a turbulent time in the Rigby household hence my absence from blogging. But I'm back and here to tell you all about it...

Two and a half weeks ago my Dad had a little bit of a disaster, tripping  over, hitting his hip on the stone hearth of our fire place and breaking his hip. This resulted in him having a very unexpected hip replacement from which he is now thankfully recovering, Looking at the silver lining of things, it was his bad hip that had been play up, causing backache due to arthritis so lets hope once he is fully recovered that pain will have gone.

So between hospital visits and my newest course being in full flow now and work is just crazy busy, I've not had time to be posting here or doing anything bloggy, like visiting some of my favorite blogs.

Can you believe we're in March already? Once again the year is just swooshing on past. We've had some horrendous weather in Surrey and the rest of UK. We wisely live on the high side of a valley but some of the poor people living on the low side have had a terrible time with flooding. The weather has certainly rocked the UK the past few months. Things are looking on the up now though and we have been blessed with some lovely sunshine the past week or so and things are finally drying up.

Something that I learnt when the flooding started was that we have a River Bourne in Kenley. I had no idea of this before and it is one that runs underground but with all the relentless rain we have had, it has overflowed and there has been lots of ground flooding.

Here are some pictures of the River Bourne. The first 2 are of Bourne Park. Normally this is just a field but as you can see there is now rather a lot of water, although this seems to be drying up again.

These next pictures are of the fields behind some houses on our road, their gardens were flooded too but I'm not sure if it reached their houses though.

Lastly, here's a video of the River Bourne, before the torrential rain, this was just a normal field with a dried out river bed but as you can see the river is in full flow now!

It's been quite surreal where we are as our road is normally so busy (thankfully our house is on a little slip road off the main road) and is on the route for many people and lorries going to and from work but since the end of Jan its been an access only road which I have to admit is rather good as it means there is minimal traffic! Once again silver linings and all that! For the first few weeks it became normality to see police and the fire brigade on the road with the occasional look in from the army too.

I'd never have expected to have these sort of troubles down our road but it goes to show you the trouble Mother nature can bring upon us. All this freaky weather reminds me of a book I read by James Herbert called Portent, it's not a pretty good book and essentially it's about Mother nature fighting back against mankind and it's abuse of the world. I'm far from being an eco-warrior tree hugger but I do love nature and the beautiful outdoors and with all this crazy weather it does make you think...
It is the near future and signs of an impending global disaster are multiplying. Earthquakes, floods and volcanic eruptions sweep the earth. As the storms and tempests rage, a series of ominous events signal the emergence of a new and terrifying force.

What is really odd, when I looked up for more info on the River Bourne I came across an article in one of the local newspapers, and the name of it???
Is the appearance of the Caterham Bourne in Woldingham a portent of doom?
Portent of doom
Well on that note I'll be leaving ya. I'm armed with coffee and biscuits so time to get back to the books and studying,

  1. Wow, that's a lot to contend with in a short few weeks! Glad all is on the up again and I wish your Dad a very speedy recovery.

I'm guessing seeing all those men in uniform helped ease the weather pain x
