Blogging from A to Z, P is for perms, potions, and the Puffin book club!

The letter P triggers some more disastrous memories for me.  Well one particular one, THE PERM. I stupidly, stupidly decided I wanted one when, I was about 12 and successfully managed to talk my mum into letting me get one. Big mistake, it was seriously dodgy.

Not a very flattering picture but it gives you an idea of the bad perm!

Did you ever sit in the bath and make potions or may be your kids do or the grandchildren? I used to love pretending I was concocting all sorts of recipes, spells whatever my imagination stretched to that bath time.  A little bit of conditioner, a touch of shampoo, a bit of bubble bath, potion was made.  A waste but hey, children don't worry about these things do they.

Once upon a time, there was the Puffin book club.  It was a great little club, a leaflet would get handed out to good little girls and boys and they could pick out the books they wanted and a few weeks later they would magically appear.   Sorry thought I was telling you a story there for a minute.  The Puffin book club, I loved it at Junior school.  The leaflets would get handed out and we would scurry home to our parents begging them to order lots of them.  Ah the torture of waiting from the time we ordered them to when they finally arrived.  It seemed like they took forever but when they were finally handed out, oh the excitement.

All my life we have had pets, well dogs and the occasional cat.  I have always been an animal lover and I'm particularly partial to pooches.  Here's a few dogs from my childhood, Sam and Molly.  The little girl is my niece she is now 22!

Looking back at all these programmes, you forget how old they are.  Some are still around today which makes me forget.

So another day, another letter.  Whose looking for letter Q, eek another tricky one!

  1. The main thing I can identify with is the perm.:) Oh my goodness, the chemical smell. Do you remember that unique scent? I remember breathing that in for a good long while during the process. Only a few perms turned out as I wanted; usually it was too curly or it didn't take. I can honestly say I am happy not to do that anymore!

  5. Yup...another perm horror story here too. We cut my hair first, then permed it. I had the most awesome afro ever. I do miss that smell though.

  7. Loved your post!! I think almost anyone who gets a perm, regrets it. I did an at-home kit and it didn't turn out too bad, but my hair just didn't keep it, which would have been a good thing if it had turned out horribly.

And YES I remember making potions with lotion and conditioner and anything that smelled good. I remember making my mother a 'perfume' once. She walked into the room and I asked her what she was wearing, I'm sure she lied when she said it was the perfume I'd made her but it gave her an excuse to throw it out.

Have fun with a-z. Thanks for bringing up some memories. :)
