I've been threatening to try out a planner from Personalplanner.com for a long time and since my work planner wasn't working for me I thought it would be the ideal time to try one. I am so happpy with how it turned out I absolutely love it.

The quality is fabulous and for all the Erin Condren lovers out there who just don't want to spend that sort of money, this may well suit you. You can customise it and it's really easy to do.

I would be so careful though as I got 2 things wrong on mine! I chose a 2018 yearly calender which I didn't actually want and I also chose to have weather icons on my days, which I did not want. So if you ever do one check, check and double check your design!

You can use one of their images for the cover or design you own. I am subscribed to Graphic Stock and chose an image off of there to use and I cannot tell you how happy I am with how it turned out, it looks so gorgeous.

The next thing you do chose is the inlay design, what writing space you want, wether you want special dates added and what modules you want at the bottom of the page. You can also have daily details like work hours, weather or work outs. I chose the watercolour theme which complements the cover so well. I have also gone for a verticle layout for the first time ever and so far so good. It is working well for me.

Here's the 2017 yearly calender, I love it it's so bright.

I still absolutley love this planner. I am actully using the weather icons as a daily task check list so in the grid box I have a key and each icon represents a task, eg check emails, check results etc. Thought I might as well try and find a use for them.

Oh my it has been forever since I have actually blogged, I have completely neglected my blog for the best part of this year. Why? Well I have been dabbling with You Tube and just not been in the right mood for it. Things are all changing now though. Although, if I'm honest I have said this many a time, 'right, now I'm going to make an effort and blog more, blah blah blah'.

It's never really happened and is this time any different? All I can really say is stick with me, because there are some great things to come. There may even be a cheeky little giveaway or two...

I started my blog on February 13th 2011! That is mad that I started my blog over 5 years ago. It's had it's little moments but it's not really where I wanted it to be at this point. When I look back to 5 years ago, it feels a little surreal, the main reason I started up this blog was to document about my life and experiences with MS and at that point my MS hadn't been well controlled and I had some serious health issues. But 5 years on and near on 300 injections later, I am winning the fight against MS and I will continue to think positively and believe that that part of my story will have a happy ending. My blog has evolved and it's gone from an online journal, to posts about crafts, sewing and now planners.

I am happy to say lots of good things have happened over the past year, Hubby has a new job, I have a new car and my love of planners has led me to become one of the members of the Design Team for the most fabulous Etsy shop Little Rainbow Moon (LRM). Here's some of her washi strip stickers that she makes. How gorgeous are they?
I cannot tell you how happy I was to have been chosen to join the team. So if you like cute stationary, enjoy journaling or love to pretty up your planner then keep those peepers on The Tales of Me, as I will be doing reviews of some of the beautiful things that you can purchase on LRM and showing you how I have been inspired to use things. Jo the multi-talented lady who is the face behind LRM often does the most amazing giveaways and I will keep you posted about these too.

I'll leave you with a link to my latest video on my You Tube Channel, check out how I have used bits from the monthly mystery kit that you can get on LRM. I purchased this kit myself as well as the other items I show you in the video
Did you get to check out my planner set up video? If you missed it here's the link.

I was showing you around my current love my Kikki-K planner that Hubby kindly bought me for Christmas. In today's post I'm going to go into a bit more detail about my planner. It's a WIP and will probably get tweaked as the months go on but there are some things that I am really happy with that probably won't change.

So I am currently using a medium sized Kikki-K in yellow. Unfortunately I don't think you can appreciate how lovely the colour is in my pictures, (hoping to get a new camera for my birthday next month, YAY!).

So I have 7 dividers, I don't label them because I know what each section is and it means I can change them up if I want too, although the 1st tab is pre-labeled with calendar.

Calendar

Planning

Expenses/budget

Personal

Goals/inspiration

Lists

Misc

Section 1: Calendar

At the start I have the cutest dashboard. I love the quote used. This is from Happie Scrappie, (sorry couldn't link up the actual page with the dashboard as the shop is closed until 22nd March.

I then have my About me page, just in case god forbid I lost this little beauty. My about me page is from Anna of Mrs Brimbles. The link is for her Etsy shop and here is the link for her store http://www.mrsbrimbles.co.uk/.

In this section I have a year at glance printables. Both the inserts I use for this are fabulous freebies the 1st one is from Wendaful.com and the 2nd from Strange and Charmed. On these I circle mine and Hubby's annual leave days. I got inspiration for this from Planner Holics on You Tube

I also have a year at a glance fold out insert which I got from Pembroke Papers and on here I use stickers to highlight our paydays. I have also started to track the use of my toiletries such as shampoo and make-up to see how long they are lasting. I've got them listed on another page and numbered and I write the number on and highlight them in yellow when I open them and I will write the number in when they are finished and highlight them in green.

The last inserts in this section are my month on 2 pages and I'm using ones I got in a Websters Colour Crush planner which I bought at the end of 2015. Rather then wasting them I covered up the numbers with washi tape. I actually really love these inserts, the boxes are quite small but paper quality is great and I love the tabs on them. I will see how they go but so far so good and I think I will get some for next year too,

Section 2 Planning

In here I have my week on 2 pages and also a tracking insert. On the week on 2 pages I right down appointments and to do's etc. I also track my water intake and whether I've had my vitamins on here. Both the inserts are from Wendaful.com, week on one page with daily check lists and simple week on two pages

I was inspired to do some doodling on my planner after watching Sarah/Sarazoel, she does some great doodles and they're quite easy to follow.

This page divider is from Happie Scrappie, from the monsters range.

I haven't taken pictures of my divders or inserts for section 3 or because this is already a pic heavy post but if you want to see these in more detail and you haven't already, here's the link to my video.

Section 3

This is a section dedicated to budgeting and finances. I didn't take a picture of my divider for this section or my inserts but I have some great inserts from Pretty Purple Plans, which are really well designed. I haven't got in to the routine of using these properly yet but they are great inserts. You get a budget sheet and a spend, savings, debt tracker.

Section 4

Again no picture for this section, but this section is has personal information such as stuff about my dogs etc. I also have my routines in here, stuff for Hubby and another insert from Mrs Brimbles for my birthdays and anniversaries.

Section 5

I love using my planner so it makes me happy to be able to open it up and look inside it for inspiration, I write my goals in here and like to write in inspirational quotes that I have come across. So as you would expect I keep my goals in here. I also keep quotes that I've come across that inspire me. I recently read Hal Elrod's The Miracle Morning (TMM), and have my personal affirmations that I do as part of my morning and bedtime routine. If you want to know more about TMM check out Boho Berry's book review where she tells you all about it, her blog is fab and very inspirational.

Section 6

Planners love lists don't they? Well I know I do and in this section I have lots of them, from wish lists to things around the home that need to be done. It's just good to get the ideas/wishes down on paper.

Section 7 - Miscellaneous

Nothing much in this section just some spare inserts. I may rethink this at some point.

So that's my set up so far. No doubt I will change things up as the year progresses or I discover new ideas. I'm so happy I discovered the wonderful world of planners and filofaxes. There is a fantastic community out there of like minded people. I am really excited as there are several meet ups that I hope to attend this year. Finally I will get to talk other addicts who understand my need for gorgeous stationery!
Part 1.Late summer 2015 I discovered a love of paper planners, more specifically Filofax's or ring style planners. I never thought I would be a paper planner type of girl but I am, BIG TIME! I have a new obsession, my planner.

*Side note: This post is called Filofax fun and technically my planner is not a Filofax but I tend to call all 6 ring binders/planners Filofax's.*

How about you, what do you use to organise your life? Are you a paper planner person or are you a sucker for Evernote or one of the other fabulous apps that are around to help you GSD? (NB:GSD - Get Shit Done).

I do love the apps out there to help keep you on top of things but they were just not working for me. I don't know if it's because I'm slowly edging closer to the big 40 but I've been doing a lot of soul searching and yeah I am an alright kind of gal but I want to be the best version of me that I can be. So I am on a quest to get my act together, in fact get my life together. There is a lot of things involved in this and I'll tell you about them another time but to help with the organisational side of things I thought I would try a paper planner.

I started with a Filofax Clipbook, moved on to a Filofax Domino and then a Malden (seriously love the Malden!) and my current love is the medium Kikki-k personal planner in yellow. I've been using this gorgeous planner since Christmas and loving it.

So what is it about a paper planner that I love? I just find them so much more inspiring, to open it up and see a cute and gorgeous spread. And then there is all the lovely inserts and sticker you can get for them. I just love it all. Now the thing is as much as I love the creative side of planning, it is a side of me I have to rein in as the whole point of a planner is to help get me organised and not to spend hours decorating it or looking for cute things for it (I have never done this, honest...).

Check out my video showing you inside the little beauty:

Shock horror mine has not been as organised as I hoped. It's taken me longer then expected to get things sorted after Christmas and being away for New Year. I think I'm there now. Well kind of. This does not bode well for my 2016 goals...

I am actually feeling very positive about this year and I feel I may have to rethink my goals. Why?

Well, I have told you before how much I love to watch videos on You Tube and I came across You tuber Marie Forleo from Marie TV who was interviewing Danielle La Porte and I found it really interesting what she was saying about goals and how you are actually chasing the feeling you get when you achieve those goals. It got me thinking about how I want to feel by achieving my goals and it is actually more inspiring then seeing a list of goals written down. Most years my goals actually looks more like a list of To Do's.

Here's the interview:

After watching the interview I was intrigued enough to decide I'd like to read Danielle LaPorte's book. I have an Audible subscription and was pleased to see I could order the book which meant I didn't have to wait for pay day to get it. I haven't listened to a lot of it yet but so far so good.

As well as reading Danielle's book I am also reading one called Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert and The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod. Now you may say 'Hey Kate, isn't that a bit over kill on the old self-development books? perhaps, but I'm reading them at different times depending on how I'm feeling. It's got be said though so far I am thoroughly enjoying them and feeling a hell of a lot more motivated already.
Very briefly The Miracle morning is about getting up an hour or so earlier than your usual time enabling you to achieve more with your day and starting your day positively and with determination. Click on the links below to see some You Tubers thoughts on their miracle mornings:
Jeff Rose and Sandy Leveque and Sandy Leveque miracle morning one month in.

I'm going to start it tomorrow but I won't be getting up as early as I will be on Monday when the real fun starts.

There is plenty I want to achieve personally this year and to help inspire me and keep me feeling motivated and positive there are a few new things I want to do such as as developing a self care routine and keeping a journal. How about you? What are your thoughts for 2016? Have you read any of these books? Let me know in the comments if you have or what your thinking.

We shall see how this all goes but I am determined to make beneficial lifestyle changes that I can stick too....

Before I go I just wanted to say in case you're wondering, these are just my plans and thoughts and I have no links with any of the authors I have mentioned, just thought some of you may be interested too.

I hope you have had a very merry Christmas. It's been quite a while since I have graced my blog with a post, so for any of you who have checked in for an update, apologies. I have been caught up with other things and just wasn't feeling it. BUT it's the coming to the end of the year and like every other year I feel like it is a good time for fresh starts and reviewing your life or things in your life. One of the things in my life is my blog, which I have always enjoyed doing but I lost my way. I am back now and hopefully rejuvenated.

You may have noticed my blog looks a little different. I'm in the process of revamping it. The main reason for this is to make it more mobile user friendly. What do ya think? Any good?

I haven't quite tweaked all the necessary bits so please bear with me...

In 2016 I will be giving my blog more love and attention as well as dabbling a little more into You Tube and some Vlogging... If you missed it here is my first attempt First ever Vlog!

As part of this I am going to have to re-evaluate how I am doing things and organising my time. This shouldn't be a problem as I am now a serious planner addict, * Hubby now has an 'as if' look on his face* so I really should have no excuses about being organised...

Any hoo, I'm looking forward to the New Year and having a fresh start on The Tales of Me. So what should you be expecting then?

After doing a Vlog and talking about my MS, I realised I hadn't blogged about it in a very long time so I will be talking a little about health. I will also be sharing with you my new addiction, my Filofax and how I am using it to try and help my organisational skills. I also feel a little competition coming on, so keep your eyes peeled!

For now I will just be saying watch this little space in the blogmosphere, I will be back. I am going to be away visiting family in Wales till the New Year, so I will be back in January with gusto!
Hey Guys,

It's been a while since my last post and today I'm sharing with you something new...

Today's post is going to be in the form of a Vlog! Eeek! Yes that's right for some mad reason I decided to film myself. I just felt like mixing things up a bit on The Tales of Me and trying something new.

Now if you've read some of my previous posts you know that I love watching things on You Tube. I really enjoy seeing how people organise their lives, set up the planners even their stationary and shopping hauls. I just find it really interesting. I know you can have your pictures in blogs and write about things but there are times when it's just easier or nice to show someone i.e, in a video. I'm not sure if you do but if you fancy it, check out my video and get to know me a little bit better and hear about why I decided to jump out of my comfort zone and do a Vlog.

Enjoy! (Hopefully...)

Hey peeps!

It's been a miserable Bank Holiday weekend in the UK, pretty much non-stop rain. The rain hasn't stopped poor Hubby being outside to build our new bed. Yep that's right he's building our new bed. While moving furniture around the other weekend the bed actually fell on it's side and broke. We did need a new bed but hadn't planned on doing it quite yet but hey I'm really excited to see the finished bed. I will be sharing with you what Hubby did once he has finished it all.

Here's poor Hubs under his temporary shelter, I feel bad that while he's out in the rain, I'm sitting her blogging in the dry:

and all of these are going to be magicked into our lovely new bed...

With my housework done and the miserable weather outside I thought it would be the perfect time to grab a coffee and write a post. So now you nip to the kitchen and grab yourself a beverage and settle down to read on...

I have mentioned to you how I love to watch You Tube, from videos about nursing and medical stuff (for work) to crafts and sewing. My favourite ones to watch at the moment are about planners. My obsession with planners hasn't subsided and may be getting worse lol! So I am going to share with you some of my favourite You Tubers, I think these ladies are great and I find their videos so helpful and motivational. They make me want to <strike>go out and buy beautiful planners</strike> get myself organised.

So in no particular order let me introduce you to these lovely ladies, I have attached links to their You Tube profile, blogs and playlists.

First up we have Chloe Murray, according to her blurb on You Tube, she is a Graduate from South East England and currently Vlogs as a much loved hobby. You can also find her at her blog
Chloe's thoughts

I wish I had been as organised as Chole when I was a student. I have mentioned previously it was Chloe who introduced me to the Filofax Clipbook which I saw in one of her Vlogs.

Next up is this lovely lady, Alexis aka Miss Trenchcoat a 20 something Content Creator and Entrepreneur. She has a ton of videos on planning, organisation and productivity. According to Alexis, her channel is where lifestyle and productivity meet. Her blog Strange and Charmed has lots of fantastic content too. If you are considering setting up an online business or becoming an entrepreneur yourself she has some great advice (I'm not, I watch it for other tips). She also has a shop where you can buy and download lots of planner goodies she has designed for planner stickers and inserts to a hole planner.

Another fab lass is Haley Cairo. I love her planner videos. One I recently watched has given me a great idea, which does involve having another planner (only a small one) for budgeting. Haley's spiel she says

" I strive to be my best self and to help and empower others through healt, fitness, beauty, DIYs and organisation."

Here is her video on how she uses her pocket Finsbury Filofax as a wallet and budget binder.

Next we have another UK lass, Amy from Amy Hacks Life and you can also find her at her blog. She posts tutorials on How to's, life hacks, lifestyle advice, beauty and style and all sorts of other stuff. She even talks about bullying and how to cope with it.

Here are some links to more Vloggers I like to watch:
Miss Vicky BeeMy Planner
Papered Love
Organized Jen

Lastly I leave with you with a playlist of videos to drool over by Kikki K. Beware stationery addicts, so much cuteness!

It's been a while since I've done a 5 on a Friday and today's is a special one. A month go my fabulous dad turned 80! So in honor of him here are 5 reasons why my Dad is awesome:

1) He's not afraid of a challenge and to take on something new. From a very young age he had always wanted to fly a glider. As a surprise for his 78th birthday we organised a flight for him. He was so chuffed. On the day he got to fly he was so excited and absolutely loved it. The people he did it with were really good and he actually got a longer flight then we paid for.

2) He is extremely supportive of me in all I do, from my career and studies to my little craft/sewing projects. When I was at school/college and I had course work or an essay I was struggling with he would be there for support and guidance or even just to make me a coffee to help me stay awake.

3) When I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis he was devastated ( as well as my mum obviously), I hated the fact it broke their hearts. All along though, both him and my mum have been great pillars of strength and support.n When we didn't know how bad things were going to get and I was having real serious health troubles, it was at a stage in our lives that we had all reached a crossroads and together we made the decision that they would sell up and move in with us so that if my health took a turn for the worse they would be around to help. I am pleased to say my health has significantly improved and the treatment I am on has worked wonders to the point where I'm pretty much back to normal (more or less).

4) Many years ago when I was around 10ish my brother use to own a Jeep. I'm not sure if this is/was actually allowed (I suspect not) but my Dad would take us to a local "grassy area" (I shan't say more than that) where he would drive up and down at a reasonable speed with the roof down while me and my friend were sitting in the back. I actually think there were times we were standing up too. It was so much fun! To hell with health and safety, I say.

5) He does the fumiest things. For example when I have Christmas decorations up he will randomly come and move the Santas or reindeers into funny positions. Or we'll be out shopping together and he'll put something random or silly in the trolley such as this cushion when we were all buying paint at a hardware store.

So there you have it, 5 of many reasons why my Dad is awesome.
Today I'm feeling an incy bit guilty, I may of gone OTT with my latest stationery haul! Just a smidge. Mind you, I shan't be showing Hubs this post!

Before you read on I would like to point out all this beautiful stationery was bought over the past month and now I've written that down I realise that doesn't make it any better. I just couldn't resist all the cute stationery that's around. Also as I mentioned in my last post I've purchased a new Filofax Clipbook which I'm intending to use it as a planner which means I wanted to buy some washi tape and different bits and bobs to set it up. I did grab many bargains though.

Let me show/tell you all about it...

1. This is my Filofax Clipbook. I love it! The colour is called pear and it is a gorgeous, gorgeous shade of green. Unfortunately my photos just don't do it justice. I do apologise for the quality of photos, the lighting in my house is terrible for pictures and I tried to get better ones but it just wasn't happening. I shall be telling you more about the Clipbook in another post. They cost £18 but I got mine on Ebay for £16.22 with free P&P.

2. and 4.These paperclips are so cute with little sayings on such as Hey there. and I just love the patturns on the sticky notes and mini clipboard with notepad. These are all from WHSmiths who are have got lots of back to school deals on and all of these had money off ad much as 70% off I think.

3. These pencils were a pack of 10 from Wilkonsons for £1.49 and the rubbers were a £1 for the set at Tiger Stores (one of my favourite shops ever).

1. Again here are the sticky notes from WHSmiths.

2. This elephant sellotape holder and these scissors were a £1 each from Tiger Stores. The scissors are great, one cuts things with a scalloped edge and the other with a more saw-toothed or jagged edge.

3. I love this mini single hole punch which I got from Paperchase for £3ish. It's really handy for punching holes in inserts for my Clipbook.

4. Here's a mini tape dispenser with bunting flags from Wilkonsons which are so cute, I think this was about £1.50 not sure if I can get refills though which will be a shame.

5. This is a little roller stamp with cute little houses and flowers on and was from Tiger Stores and was a £1.

6. I bought this single 1/8 inch hole punch from Amazon. It was around £7ish and is very helpful if you want to add inserts to a spiral bound notebook (you can customize notebooks by adding different inserts or dividers, it's really easy to do, I shall show this too you another day).

I haven't got any pictures of them but I've also bought quite a lot of stickers to use in my planner. These varied in price from 50p to a £1 from WHSmiths, Ebay and Paperchase.

Well that's my haul. Love it all but all thouse £1's hear and £1's there all add up! If you read my previous post, I confessed I was a stationery addict and as you can see I really wasn't lying. I am now band from entering into any stationery shops for a while.

Do you love cute stationery? I am very jealous of all you lovely bloggers from across the pond because I am very jealous of all the cute things you seem to pick up in Target! Well that's it from me for now. I'll be back on Friday with my 5 on a Friday and I will also be sharing with you how I've set up my Clipbook.

I'm joining in with the following linky parties:

Planners, what are your thoughts?

Are you a digital or a paper girl/dude?

I've been hankering after a paper planner from when I first discovered how many cute ones there are out there and I'm telling you there are SO many seriously cute ones. For all the stationery <strike>addicts</strike> lovers out there, there is a vast array of styles along with all the beautiful accessories. From spiral bound planners to six ring binders and everything in between. I'm telling you it's enough to make a stationery addict OD on all the loveliness.

Oh that's right, *I stand up and raise my hand* 'My name's Kate and I'm most definitely a stationery addict!'.

But come on who doesn't love beautiful stationery? I always have from as far back as I can remember, from when I was around 5 and use to live in a sweet shop a few doors down from a stationery shop. When I was old enough to have a wander on my own, this was one of the regular places I visited.

Any hoo, back to business. I think it all started for me when I discovered Erin Condren. Her planners are amazing and are very popular within the planner community. Yes that's right there is a planner community for those of you who don't know, as well as a Filofax community. I think for a lot of planner addicts out there, it's not only a necessity <strike>to feed their addiction </strike> for work/organisation but also it becomes a hobby and a creative outlet for them. I cannot tell you how many blog posts or You Tube videos I have watched on planners and productive ways to use them, Hubby always says if I spent less time watching things on organisational stuff I might find I'd have more time to actually be more organised! Harsh but possible true.

As an addict the lure of beautiful planners has been an ongoing scuffle between the sensible side of my brain and the side prone to making random stationery purchases. Up until now my sensible side has always won, the reason being I'm just not sure if I will make the best use of one. But in the end my more frivolous side has prevailed and I've gone and bought a Filofax Clipbook. Initially I was tempted by Erin Condren but it's a high budget planner and then there's Kikki K (oh the cuteness on this site although this is definitely a high budget planner). Planners can be so expensive and if you end up not using it, it would be such a waste of money. I then toyed with the idea of a Plum Paper Planner and the Simplified planner by Emily Ley, the list goes on and on. But it was after scouring the internet I finally think I may of found the answer in the Clipbook!

It is actually thanks to blogger and You Tuber Chloe Murray. I watched her video on her new planner addiction and how she has set up her planners. She sounds supper organised for a Uni student, or was it just me that was badly organised. Well, she introduced me to the Filofax Clipbook and I have fallen in love with it. She has moved on from hers now but I actually think it will really suit my needs. It's not actually a planner but more of a notebook but it also has planner tendencies i.e monthly and weekly inserts. So I've gone and done it, somehow one hopped into my basket on Ebay and now found found it's way to a loving new home. I shall tell you all about it next time and show you my most recent stationery haul! *Shhh! Don't tell Hubby!*

I need to grab one of Hubbies size 12's, slip it on and give myself a boot up the ass!

Well consider it done!

Ok enough silliness. I'm just coming out from a bit of a downer. You know, when you've had lots of fun (possibly had a few too many glasses of Prosecco *hiccup*) and once all the fun is over you feel a little flat. Well that's been me.

So what fun, have I been up to? Well my dear Dad, turned 80! I seriously can't believe it. Where do the years go by? So we've had lots of celebrating.

For the month of July I had several posts planned, in honour of my Dad, but they didn't quite happen. But I can't let his 80th birthday pass on by with out a post or two about it and him.

For today though I'm going to share with you a poem about fathers and daughters, I thought it was lovely. So although it was back in July, happy birthday once again to my wonderful Dad,

Special Hero

When I was a baby,
you would hold me in your arms.
I felt the love and tenderness,
keeping me safe from harm.
I would look up into your eyes,
and all the love I would see.
How did I get so lucky,
you were the dad chosen for me.
There is something special
about a father's love.
Seems it was sent for me
for someplace up above.
Our love is everlasting,
I just wanted you to know.
That you're my special hero
and I wanted to tell you so.
It seems 2015 is not the year I get my act together with my blog. Well it certainly hasn't been yet but we have another 6 months ish to go...

So what's gone wrong?

Well I started off doing a Sunday post, with a recap and blog plans for the week but that didn't last long, only a week or two and then that went out the window.

I started writing a hole lot of <strike>reasons</strike> excuses why things on my blog have not been happening but I highlighted and deleted the lot as that's just boring! You would have heard the reasons before (time and again) if you do keep up with my blog. So I won't subject you to these again.

So lets just leave it at, I haven't been able to get on top of my blog and that is that. I still consider at times giving it all up but I just can't quite do it, I do love the blogging world and my blog and although it's not really the right time for me to make more of a success of it as my priority really is my job which is full on stress at the moment. There will be a time to focus on my blog more one of these days...

I have ideas galore for posts but a lack of time and yes a lack of inclination too.

If we were having coffee...

I would tell you I've not long finished drinking my first cup of coffee of the day. What's that all about? It's 9.20pm...

I would ask have you seen posts like this dotted around the blogmophere? I have but I couldn't find were it originated from but I have discovered #coffeeweekendshare hosted by Diana at https://parttimemonster.wordpress.com, which I will try and join in next weekend.

But for this week I would tell you I have had a long weekend off as it is Spring bank holiday today, not that we've really done much with it.

I would tell you I haven't posted on my blog for a few weeks, my motivation is coming and going and things are all a bit stressful at work with one nurse on long term sick leave and another has just left which is really not good, so if I want to keep blogging I am going to have to get super organised as life is going to be that much more stressful over the next few months.

I would tell you that I experienced my first live rugby match back on the 10th May at Twickenham Stadium, which was fantastic, it was the army verse the navy. What an experience, the army were the victors (thankfully, as Hubs and his mates are all ex army). What I love was before the match there was lots of hi-jinks and drunken debauchery but as soon as the National Anthem started to play, 81,500 people joined together and sung in unison. It was awesome!

I would tell you I should be studying rather then sitting on my computer doing a blog post! Arghh why on earth did I agree to do another course. Thankfully it does not require me writing an essay but I do have a practical exam in June and I have to get a portfolio together which is a lot of work but not due till October.

I would tell you that I am really pleased with how our garden is looking, we haven't had much money to go out and about so we've been doing jobs around the home trying to get a few things sorted. Here is a garden planter Hubby made out of the offcuts from our fence. He did a fab, what do you think?

I would tell you that I'm currently planning my dad's 80th birthday party! Seriously when did that happen? 80, I can't believe it. It's just gong to be a smallish gathering of friends and family and it's a surprise but I will be more surprised if it stays that way, I am convinced my mum is going to give the game away soon.

Here's the invite I designed for it, this is a smaller version without all the personal details on it.

I would tell you that my father-in-law is kindly doing some research for me about my Dad's family history, I can not wait to see what he has discovered and get it all together to present to Dad. I wonder what he'll think of the family secret I've discovered...

I would say I hope you have had a great start to your week and that I am off to plan out my week so I can actually accomplish some of things I need to!

It's been an age since I've posted about the things I'm currently coveting. This evening I felt like doing a bit of wishful thinking so here we go...

Hubby and I had popped out with The Olds to a garden center and on the way home came across a lovely coffee shop, The Old Post Coffee House, in Nutfield Surrey. Apart from coffee and yummy cakes they also have a selection of gifts in there. I LOVE this place, cute things and yummy food, what more can a girl ask for,

Some of the gifts they had in there were lovely, they had some antiques and vintage items too. I wish I taken some photos, They also sold a lovely selection of Sasse and Belle gorgeousness. This inspired me to check out the Sasse and Belle website. Here are a few of the items that caught my eye (all pictures are from the Sasse and Belle site):

A little while ago I added my custom blog signature to my posts following a fantastic post by Marie from www.codeitpretty.com. I was really happy how it turned out but I only wanted my signature to appear on blog posts and not in the snippets you see on home page. I tried to follow her instructions but it just wasn't working but I tried again and again and now WOO HOO! It's worked. A little patience and perseverance gets you there in the end. So now my signatures only appear on my blog posts.

For those of you who are scared to fiddle around with the HTML of your blogs, my advice is don't be. If you find a good tutorial and follow the instructions it's not a problem honestly. And on great blogs like Marie's if you contact her with any questions or problems she is having she will get back to you.

It can be really frustrating when you muster up the courage to have a fiddle with things like your blog template and then it doesn't work. My advice is, don't give up. Give yourself a little break and then go back to it. For me the error I'm usually making is I have not read the given instructions properly, resulting in things not working. Once I decided to go for it, I've managed to change by blog background/template several times (the present one I love but I fear I'm going to have to change again because it's not mobile friendly), add different widgets and all sorts of things more.

Ok I've been sitting on my sofa with my lap top, phone and tablet to go through our expenses and budget. Yes, I need all 3 devices, well I probably don't but it makes life a little easier because I look at different things I need on each device rather then flicking back and forth on different tabs.

Any hoo, my brain feels like it is going to explode.

I have gone through all our monthly expenses and updated my expenses/budget table on Evernote, (I will be telling you all about my LOVE for Evernote and how fabulously useful it can be soon, I'm always discovering new ways to use it). I know how much money we have coming in and how much is going out regularly BUT I am no wiser as to our budget and how much money we really have.

I cannot tell you how many budgets I have done, but I can tell you none of them have worked.

It's because apart from bills going out which I can keep track of it's all the other bits and bobs like diesel, coffee etc that I can't keep track of!

How do you do it? How do you keep track of your money? If you manage it well, please explain all, I NEED to know.

Now there are a ton of cute but helpful budgeting printables out there, but I don't think this will work for us. I've often seen stuff on the web and Pinterest on the envelope budgeting system, the name Dave Ramsey pops up quite a bit.

Over the years life has changed a lot. I'm sure I'm not the only person that frequently finds the coin/wallet section of my purse empty. Now yes, this is partly because I never seem to have any but what I'm getting at is I use my debit card the majority of the time and so does Hubby, This makes it so hard to keep track of daily expenses. Which is where the envelope system comes in. It doesn't help that it's difficult to budget for Hubby's diesel as he averages about 2000 miles a month, which is a lot of diesel. He drives all round the country but it's very random. He does get a fuel allowance which means in the middle of the month he will get money back but it's having the money for that outlay initially.

So with the envelope system, you work out what your outgoings are, work out catergoreies for your expenditures i.e food, medical, diesel etc, make up envelopes/pouches for each of the expenses and then physically get the cash out and put it into the relevant envelopes so you know how much you have to spend on each one. You are suppose to be very strict and should only use the money in the envelope for what it has been budgeted for.

I've been wondering if this is an easier way to keep track of where you money is going?

So after a bit of research, a few more hours spent on Pinterest (as if I don't spend enough time on there already) I've run the idea by Hubby and he is up for giving it a go, so we're going to trial the envelope system.

We're not doing it quite as you should as it's awkward with Hubby's expenses because as I mentioned we never quite sure how much diesel he will need. Once we get into it more, this may be easier but one step at a time. It's important to do what works for you isn't it.

I have found a cute little expanding wallet to use which has 3 dividers in it, so one is going to be for food (this will include toiletries etc), one for my diesel and one for my personal expenses. We are going to need more categories but this month is really tight and we are restricted to what funds we have available so 3 categories are sufficient for this month.

All the bills go out of my account, so I have worked out how much we have after the bills have gone out and then allocated a budget for each expenditure we have. As I said it's difficult to work out Hubby's expenses so we have allocated money which is in his account as normal and he will still be using his debit card for his purchases, so I suppose Hubby's account will be his envelope. At the end of the month we will have a better idea (hopefully) of where the money is going and it will help for the following months budgeting.

Check out my Pinterest board and you will find links to some detailed posts about the cash envelope system along with how to set it up and making your own cash envelopes.
Click on the link to check out Victoria's from Happily ever Straders blog it's a detailed run down of using the cash envelope system and another great post is this one from Just sweet and simple, there are some cute printables to use too.

I'm hoping the system is going to help us with our budgeting, it has so many positive reviews.

Now all that's left is we bump into a helpful money fairy who magics us some more money...

I haven't manage to do a 5 on s Friday for a while. We've been quite busy in the Rigby household, finishing off the garden fence and sorting out rubbish and unwanted bits in the garden. We've also been a bit frustrated and down as there is so much we want to do but lack of funds means we can't. That's just tough I know, but sometimes you just get fed up of having to keep struggling through. Joys of having your own business to run I suppose. When I start feeling like this my blogging goes a bit to pot which is frustrating as I have lots of idea of what I want to write about but the inclination to do it lacks.

Seeing as moods have been up and down this week in our house I thought I should think about 5 of the things that have made me smile this week. I reckon one or two of the pics may make you smile too. Happy Friday!

*Warning, pic heavy and mainly pooch pic heavy, Alfie loves to do a bit of photobombing!*

1.We (that's the royal 'we, Hubby really did all the work although I did help lots) finally have our fence finished and it looks fab! Although it has added to our skintness it is such a relief to have it all done as it was a humongous job. It also means that Spike aka Houdini aka The Littlest Hobo will no longer be able to escape.
3. Then there's our Alfie. He is forever doing cute things to make me smile. For example, I've taken a few pictures of the garden this week and a certain little boy keeps getting in the way of my photo's!
5. We had a fair bit of wood left over from the fence where we had to trim the gravel boards down. At the weekend Hubby and I were chatting about how we could make use of it and I mentioned about making a planter. My super clever Hubby surprised me Wednesday when I got home with this:

How great is that! I'm so impressed. Now we just need to paint it and get some plants. Alfie is hoping we are going to turn it into a food trough...

That's it for today then. I'm sure you've had enough of the pooches. But hey, you have to admit they're a cute pair and if they don't make you smile I don't know what will.

Hope you have a good Friday.

A little while ago I mentioned I'd made myself a hanging phone pouch to hang on the handle of my bedside table. Finally, here's a little tutorial to show you how I did it. I made it for my phone but it can be used for anything you fancy. There is a main pocket for your phone and a second pocket for headphones or anything else you may want to store. There are 2 straps with velcro that you can use to hang the pouch up.

I made this to fit my Samsung Galaxy Note 4, so cut your fabric the size you need for your phone.

I needed: Larger pocket 8 3/4 x 5 1/2 inches
2 pieces of fabric 2 inches x 7 inches for straps
2 x small velcro squares.

I didn't feel the need to use interfacing but you can do, if you want a slightly more padded or protective pouch.

To make the straps fold the material in half and iron, then turn it inside out so the wrong side of the fabric is facing each other and stitch along the 2 long sides and the 1 short side.

Next you need to attach the velcro. Sew the rough side of the velcro to the end of the strap. What I recommend is sewing the velcro on to the fabric before you sew the 2 pieces together because the stitching will then be hidden between the two layers of fabric. Although thinking about it, this may put more strain on the fabric?? I suppose you just need to stitch neatly...

Velcro is a hook and loop closure system. The rough side is the hook and the soft the loop. Don't make the same mistake as me, I thought I was all organised and laid out all the bits I needed. Then the first mistake I made was I sewed it onto the strap and then when I sewed the straps in I had them facing the wrong way. Rather then sewing the straps again I unpicked the velcro and changed them round. Unfortunately I then managed to sew the 2 soft/loop parts on one strap and side and the 2 hook/rough parts on the other! So double check your positioning of things before you go ahead and sew them!

Next position the soft side of the velcro in the correct position on the inside of the larger pocket.
Once again I only stitched around the sides of the velcro but to make it more secure you could sew diagonally from corner to corner to form a cross.

Sandwich the straps between the 2 layers of fabric that will form the outside pocket. Make sure you lay the strap facing the right way, the image only shows how I positioned my straps.

The 2 pieces of fabric which will form the back of the pouch need to sewn together right sides facing each other once you have formed the sandwich of fabric and stitch along the top. Repeat this with the 2 pieces of fabric that will form the front of that pocket and also the smaller pocket.

Once you have done this you will have 2 pieces stitched together which will be the back of the larger pocket, 2 pieces which will be the front of the larger pocket and 2 pieces stitched together which will form the small pocket.

Now you have stitched each section together sandwich the smaller pocket between the the two larger pieces. The back of the fabric which will form the smaller pocket needs to be facing what will be the front of the larger pocket. All you need to do now is stitch around the two long sides and the bottom, turn right side out and voila, all done!

Really? NO really???? 38 I'm sure someone has got my date of birth wrong, my mind is still that of a teenager. My body is telling me something else though, definitely seeing/feeling tell tale signs of aging...

Only joking really (well kind of), I know I'm not old but it's still weird, the years go by so quickly don't they. More importantly what I seriously can't believe is my dad is 80 this year! Now, that is ridiculous, I mean does this look like a very nearly 80 year old man to you?

Since it is a very big birthday for him this year you will be hearing more about my lovely dad in the coming months. I hopefully will have some interesting tales to tell as my Dad had a very different up bringing I imagine to you and I, being born in India. My father in law is doing some research for me about our family tree, I can't wait to see what he's found out.

Ok, yes it's my birthday and I'm happy to say I have the day off work but as we have already had an expensive month (I know, it's only the 8th but had to put up a new fence) I'm not doing much with the day off unfortunately but it's better then being on a long day. Hopefully we will continue to have good weather and may be get out for a picnic with the pooches at the weekend.

I feel a little bit meh, about this birthday

It's come round far to quickly and I'm not ready for it, plus skint which puts a dampener on any celebrations. So birthday I say to you (you can imagine the sound effect, in fact I'd like you to join in).

Awe, those pictures made me smile. I found the raspberry blowing quite therapeutic. Oh dear I may have lost the plot a little today and I promise you I haven't been drinking.

Right I'm off to do something, not sure what but I can't spend all day on the computer on my birthday.

In my last 5 on a Friday I talked about some of the things I do wrong when it comes to sewing. One of things I said I wanted to do more of to help me improve my skills was to have a go at more of the fabulous tutorials that there are available.

So I tackled the Fairly Bucket Bag by Kirsten from Sew mamma sew

Image from Sew Mamma Sew

This is a fantastic tutorial and easy to follow. I am still quite a newbie when it comes to sewing and I think people of all capabilities could tackle this tutorial no problem.

I was so happy with how my bag turned out, what do you think?

This is the first time I had a go at sewing an internal zipper pocket. I have to admit I had to unpick my first attempt and the material I used for the lining of my bag wasn't great which added to my corners not being as crisp as I like. I don't think it is really meant for the linings of bags but it is all I had that went with my exterior fabric.

I definitely feel happier about adding internal pockets to bags that I make and hopefully will do a better job.

A little bit more about the tutorial. You are given a comprehensive list of the tools and supplies needed followed by clear instructions of what to do. The tutorial is broken down into parts and Kristen takes you through each step thoroughly from cutting the fabrics to completing the bag. At first glance you may think, eek there's a lot to this bag. But actually there's not and the fact that it's broken down into sections really helps.

I really enjoyed following this tutorial, it was a fantastic way to learn and I can use that knowledge when I am designing my own things.

Ok so what went well?

I manage to sew a fabulous bag! My sewing is improving and I am getting neater.

What didn't go as well?

I did mess up a few things and ended up making my bag smaller as I had to trim it down because of my rubbish cutting skills and somehow I ended up putting more eyelets in.

I also only had a certain amount of the fabulous deer print fabric and in addition to that I didn't plan out the pattern of the fabric very well. So what I initially planned to be the front of the bag, ended up being at the back as I wanted the cute deer in glasses more visible, this means the internal pocket is at the front of the bag rather then the back. Well I could have it either way I just need to change where the chord comes out.

Lastly the webbing is a little to thin and flimsy so I am going to buy some sturdier webbing which will be so much better and I can easily change it.

All in all an excellent tutorial and I really recommend giving it ago. The end result, a gorgeous and usable bag. I am looking forward to tackling another tutorial, it's a good job I have a plethora of them on Pinterest. Need some inspiration?

I'm not sure if any of you in the UK have already seen it but there is a four part series on BBC 2 'The Lady Killers' about women in the pest control industry. There's not many women working in the industry and one of them is one of Hubby's partners. The company is Trust K9 and is made up of 3 humans and 2 talented dogs Alfie and his son Dex.

It's in episode 1 that Claire and Alfie make their debut which went out last Wednesday. Alfie was a hit. He wore a camera on his harness which meant we got a dogs eye view of what it was like when he is darting around all over the place sniffing out bedbugs.

Later in the episode Claire shows Imogen another pest controller how to do a heat treatment to eradicate them. Click on the link below to read the review in the Daily Mail by Christopher Stevens.

I would love you to check out the link below to the show. Feel free to watch the whole episode but Alfie first makes his appearance at 2:43 and then the heat treatment is a little bit further on in the episode just after 29 minutes.

Hubby and the rest of the team took over the company a year and a half ago and I had a post all lined up about it but as I was in the thick of my studies it never got published but I'll tell you all about Trust K9 and their fight against bedbugs another time.

If you want to check out some other videos and show your support it would be lovely if you subscribe to their You Tube channel, (it's a work in progress).
